Economics and Impact

In its first five years, V&A Dundee has established itself as a national cultural landmark and a driver of regeneration for the city and Scotland as a whole.

BOP was commissioned to evidence this impact and provide a roadmap for the museum’s future growth. Working in partnership with Tialt Consultancy, we assessed how V&A Dundee contributes economically, culturally, and socially, from supporting jobs and boosting tourism to shaping design education and community engagement.

We measured the museum’s reach, highlighting its 1.7 million visitors, with 500,000 visiting Dundee for the first time, and tracked over 270,000 interactions through learning and outreach programs. These included educational workshops, community events, and design experiences for pupils, families, and groups throughout the region

Our findings enabled V&A Dundee to powerfully demonstrate its economic, social, and cultural value to stakeholders, funders, and the broader public. Armed with this evidence, the museum is well-equipped to secure future support, diversify revenue paths, and continue serving as a linchpin in regional regeneration and cultural ambition.
