BOP’s work with Festivals Edinburgh has set the international benchmark for measuring the impact of major cultural events.
Project Team
Over the past decade, our evaluations have shown how Edinburgh Festivals drive economic growth, sustain jobs, and boost Scotland’s global reputation — setting new standards for measuring the impact of major cultural events.
Since 2010 we have delivered four landmark assessments, each providing a clear picture of the festivals’ economic, social and cultural contribution. Our analysis has revealed the scale of visitor and organiser spending, the employment sustained across Edinburgh and Scotland, and the wider value created for audiences, performers and delegates.
The influence of this work has extended well beyond Scotland. Coverage by outlets such as the BBC and the Wall Street Journal has reinforced the festivals’ standing as one of the world’s leading cultural gatherings, and our approach has become an international reference point for measuring cultural impact.
By equipping festival organisers and funders with robust evidence and practical recommendations, our work has guided long-term strategy and ensured the festivals continue to deliver maximum cultural, social and economic benefit.
